A) Fluid Acrylics & Layerist Techniques (Beginner & Intermediate)

This workshop is an exciting opportunity to explore new painting techniques using fluid acrylics, both on their own and in combination with other mediums. Students will discover the medium's amazing versatility and at the same time develop a deeper appreciation of colour, texture and design.

Techniques are presented as tools to be used spontaneously and intuitively in an individualistic creative process. B) Gold & Silver Leaf Application (Beginner)

Gold and silver leafing is an ancient technique that can be used in a variety of modern applications. Learn how to gild on acid free paper using artificial & genuine gold and silver leaf by watching step-by-step demonstrations.

Etching techniques and lightfast inks will be applied on the metallic surface creating a rich, luminous work of art. C) Abstracting the Landscape in Acrylics (Beginner)

By exploring the aspects of design, shape, line, value contrast, rhythm, texture and colour, participants in this 3 day workshop will discover how to see more abstractly and create their own original works of art. Utilizing photographs and on site sketches (weather permitting) we'll quickly paint or sketch an initial study, then use our sketches in the studio to apply the principles of design & "abstract" the essence of the landscape.

D) Decorative Arts: Floorcloths and Murals for Home Décor (Intermediate)

Transform a wall or door into a beautiful vista. This course will introduce the basics of painting murals from simple grid perspective drawing to illustrational three-dimensional decorative painting. Objects of various shapes, materials and textures will be used in exercises practicing tonal values of shadows and highlights.

Some previous experience in drawing or painting will be helpful. Students will choose a scene under the guidance of the instructor and create a canvas panel, window or door size, which will function as a wall-hanging and mural in one! E) Colour Theory & Mixing (Beginner & Intermediate)

A practical theory & application workshop to learn about colour, mixing colour & creating visual complements in your painting practice. We'll study the colour wheel and basic colour mixing principles through creating a series of reference charts & case studies which the participant can use for guiding future paintings.

We'll also go beyond the colour wheel into understanding visual complementary colours… this will help you create more vibrant and unique works of art! F) Drawing (for children ages 10-13)

Learn how to draw or improve your drawing skills in 6 sessions. Get familiar with the media used for drawing, understand line and shape, perspective, light and shadow to create realism and contour.

Last two sessions will include an opportunity to combine your skills in an actual drawing or painting utilizing colour in the media of your choice. Its fun and you will be excited by how quickly you develop your abilities! A simple sketch book and drawing pencil set, 2B lead especially are required. Additional materials list provided.

G) Mandala drawing

Come relax and play with the timeless art of the mandala. Explore the symbolism and the healing properties of these circular forms that have been shared the world over in every spiritual practice from ancient times to the present.

We'll explore the mandala pattern through use of applying colour on a simple prepared mandala template and gradually explore designing our own personal mandala that symbolize your unique creativity and spirituality.

Using coloured pencils and user-friendly (non-toxic) ink markers, you'll also learn some historical background information about Mandala that will further assist us in using these "life circles" as a relaxation and focusing tool. No previous art experience is required.

H) Soul Cards - Soul Archaeology

Create a series of images in 4"x6" card format utilizing collage techniques to create an accessible visual journal which will assist you in accessing your own inner wisdom. Soul cards allow the participant to reveal their personal story and use it as a restorative art-making process. The making of these cards is a way of supporting oneself and affirming your journey in an expressive and non-judgmental environment.

Collage and composition techniques will be reviewed, however, the goal is to simply provide opportunity for self-exploration to allow participants to create a "work of heart" which allows creative self-expression that is empowering. Guidance and encouragement is available throughout the workshop.

Special Note: If you are interested in a course, gather a few like-minded friends and register together. In this way I can often accommodate your schedule. Classes usually run Saturdays & Sundays unless other days are available or specified within the course outline. All classes (excluding the floorcloths/mural workshop) are not structured for advanced painters; they are designed especially for those who have introductory, intermediate or no experience painting.
